you ROCK

you ROCK

What does “you rock” mean? Well, to me, it basically translates to “you’re awesome”. I also say it when I want to specify that a person is good at something. Saying “you rock” is really easy for me to say to others to show my appreciation or to boost up their morale, however, it’s equally as important to say it to myself.

Everyone should tell themselves that they rock. Part of being able to tell yourself that “you rock” involves having a positive level of self-confidence, self-esteem and believing in yourself. Positive self-esteem and self-confidence mean you like who you are, you believe in yourself, and know what you are good at. Psychology Today’s article mentions many reasons why positive self-confidence and self-esteem are important:

• Less fear and anxiety • Greater Motivation • More Resilience • Improved Relationships • Stronger Sense of Your Authentic Self How can we be a great influence to those around us and help them understand the importance of telling others and themselves that they rock?

be a role model

First, it’s important to be a role model of positive self-esteem and self-confidence. Tell yourself and believe that “you ROCK” daily. Children and those around you daily will be enamored by your own display of confidence that they will want to mimic and be just like you. If you are always doubting yourself and having self-defeating thoughts, those closest to you may mimic that negative behavior.

build up your loved one’s self-esteem

Next, focus on ways of building up your child or loved one’s self-esteem. According to an article by raisingchildren.net.au, the basic groundwork of where children’s self-esteem comes from:

• Knowing that they’re loved and that they belong to a family and a community that values them • Spending quality time with their families • Being encouraged to try new things • Finding things they’re good at and being praised for things that are important to them
